Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services in Tower Hamlets are evolving and changing, wanting the very best services for our children and young people.

We are developing and transforming our local Tower Hamlets CAMHS services in response to the increased need for support to young people with severe and complex mental health needs, including early signs of psychosis.

Main duties of the job

The post holders will be part of a multidisciplinary team offering goal-based and outcome-focused episodes of care to young people, children and families presenting with various severe and complex mental health difficulties. The post will give the successful candidates a unique perspective and ability to work collaboratively with other clinical pathways in TH CAMHS, providing care to young people with severe and enduring mental health difficulties with underlying vulnerabilities and/or contextual adversity and accompanied by high risk requiring more than routine care over a longer period of time.

Person Specification

Education/ Qualification/ Training

Essential

• Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, or MSc PG Diploma or Doctorate in Counselling Psychology or equivalent family therapy qualification or a BSc, Diploma, or Postgraduate Masters in Occupational Therapy
• Current and unrestricted registration with the HCPC and equivalent professional registration with AFT, UKCP, NMC or RCOT
• Additional training in psychotherapeutic interventions (A/I)
• Evidence of continuous and relevant professional training and development (CPD) in keeping with qualification period
• Specific therapeutic modality training and qualification e.g., CBT, DBT, Family therapy etc.

Experience

Essential

• Substantive experience in working with children and young people with complex mental health difficulties
• Experience in the delivery of specific therapeutic interventions (CBT, DBT, FT, OT)
• To have the ability to work independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team
• Experience of working with various other agencies in support of children and young people with complex mental health needs
• Experience of assessing and managing risk in service users with complex mental health needs and/or EIS
• Experience of working with young people with acute mental health difficulties in different community settings (outreach)

Knowledge

Essential

• Mental health issues relating to children, young people and families.
• Legislation relating to children & young people
• Knowledge of and sensitivity to the cultural differences within the ethnic community of East London
• An understanding of equal opportunities

Skills & Abilities

Essential

• To conduct comprehensive mental health and risk assessments including specialist assessments e.g. cognitive assessments, neurovariance assessments etc.
• Be familiar with case formulation and appropriate care planning
• To manage own caseload effectively
• Willing to embrace change creatively
• Able to sensitively liaise and consult to fellow professionals and other agencies

Desirable

• To have teaching skills
