We are recruiting now for Assistant Ambulance Practitioners to work across London on our award-winning apprenticeship programme!
Would you like to become a Qualified Paramedic? without all the costs involved in going to University? If so, the Assistant Ambulance Practitioner role could be for you!
The Assistant Ambulance Practitioner (AAP) apprenticeship is an entry-level role that allows you to learn at your own pace whilst carving out a career pathway that could see you qualifying as a paramedic in just a few short years, not only giving you a unique insight into the role, but also avoiding costly university fees and, even better, earning as you learn.
As an AAP you will deliver emergency and urgent care to a wide range of patients. Where appropriate, you will assess and treat patients at the point of contact or refer them onto another healthcare provider in conjunction with other ambulance clinicians. When necessary, you will convey them to treatment centres, hospitals and emergency departments, according to their needs.
To succeed in this role you will need to demonstrate your ability to work and communicate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds, handle stressful situations, be flexible in your approach and have basic computer skills. In addition, you will be required to demonstrate in your application and at interview how you meet the Trust values and behaviours.
Interviews: w/c 3rd August 2026
Physical Lifting Assessment: w/c 10th August 2026
Main duties of the job
As an AAP apprentice, you will undertake a 58-week Level 3 Ambulance Support Worker Apprenticeship Standard. This includes an initial 13-week training programme provided by our Clinical Education and Standards team based in Dockside (E16) or Brentford (TW8). This is then followed by a further 45 weeks of clinical practice, working on the road as part of an ambulance crew where you will be supported by experienced clinicians and Tutors / Managers, whilst based at one of our ambulance stations across London.
On successful completion of your training, you will be supported to complete your Apprenticeship End Point Assessment and then receive:
- Level 3 Diploma in Ambulance Emergency and Urgent Care Support
- Level 3 Certificate in Emergency Response Ambulance Driving
- Apprenticeship Completion Certificate from Skills England
Currently recruiting for courses from October 2026 onwards
Please note London Ambulance Service funds all training.
