We have developed an exciting opportunity to allow acute and emergency care nurses and paramedics to undertake training and gain experience toward becoming an Emergency Care Practitioner. The post is within our Haslemere Urgent Treatment Centre (with ad hoc dual site cover at Royal Surrey County Hospital Emergency Department). The post is for a part-time TECP to develop their career towards becoming an emergency care practitioner.
The successful candidate will work in a trainee capacity alongside our qualified ECP’s and doctors in developing skills and expected competencies in their treatment of minor injuries and ailments in patients aged 1 year and over who present to the Urgent Treatment Centre (Haslemere).
Post holders will have a dedicated ‘base’ site as Haslemere UTC. An ECP Clinical Mentor to support them through their training journey and portfolio, then on completion of all skills and competencies, post holders will advance into a Band 7 ECP if they complete their qualifications within the 12-month period. Development will require training through a range of methods, including post-graduate university-based study and clinical practice.

Main duties of the job
The post is a fixed-term 12-month post (01/04/26 to 31/03/27). The holder will work in a trainee capacity alongside qualified ECP’s and doctors to develop skills and expected competencies. The post holder will develop these competencies as a band 6. Once all competencies are completed, the post holder will be advanced to a band 7 and expected to deliver autonomous patient care daily.
To work alongside experienced ECPs to develop skills to be competent to autonomously assess, investigate, diagnose, treat, refer, or discharge patients attending the Urgent Treatment Centre (or Emergency Department) within the parameters of the Emergency Care Practitioner scope of practice. The post holder will continually develop their skills and competencies, to provide assessment, treatment, care, and education to patients from all sections of the community, from children (above the age of 1 year) to the elderly, ensuring high-quality patient-centered care. All Trainees’ will have a dedicated ECP Clinical Mentor to support them through their training journey, then on completion of all skills and competencies (if achieved within the 12-month period), will then progress into a Band 7 ECP.
