Are you passionate about children and young people’s emotional well-being and mental health? Do you have a passion for education and making a difference?

We are looking to recruit Education Mental Health Practitioners in training to be part of a dynamic, forward-thinking, innovative team that works in schools and colleges. We have posts available in both Hull and East Riding; preference will be discussed at the interview.

The Mental Health Support Team (MHST) is part of a national rollout and has delivered successful results in the Hull and East Riding since January 2021. The MHST is part of the Thrive approach to Children and Young People’s mental health framework, endorsed through the Emotional and Mental Wellbeing Academy.

The MHST supports schools, colleges, and the wider system through advice, support, consultation, whole school approaches, staff training, and targeted interventions using CBT.

The successful candidates will embark on a one-year training course at an identified University to gain a postgraduate diploma qualification. The role will be a combination of learning through an active caseload in service, university lectures, portfolio work, and assignments.

Successful candidates must be prepared to step into the post in January and February 2026.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidates will become part of a dedicated team of qualified Education Mental Health Practitioners and Senior Practitioners from multi-disciplinary backgrounds.

The successful candidates will access the university for two days a week to undertake learning through face-to-face and online lectures and experiences.

Under supervision for two days a week, the post holders will hold a small caseload to deliver outcome-focused evidence-based interventions for children, young people, and families experiencing mild to moderate emotional and mental health needs.

The training and service experience aims to equip the post holder with the necessary knowledge, attitude, and capabilities to operate effectively in an inclusive, passionate, innovative MHST.

The post holder must attend all university-based taught and self-study days over a year that are required by the education provider, as specified within the agreed national curriculum, and work in the service for the remaining 3 days of the week using their newly developed skills, knowledge, and understanding supported by their supervisors and other qualified EMHPs.

On successful completion of the course, post-holders will move from a band 4 salary to a band 5.
