An exciting opportunity has arisen at London North West University Healthcare Trust for an enthusiastic, motivated, and dynamic individual to join the Colorectal Cancer Clinical Nursing Team as a Colorectal Cancer Clinical Support Worker.

The Colorectal Cancer Nursing Team is looking for a Band 4 cancer clinical support worker to assist them in providing high-quality care to patients living with and beyond a diagnosis of cancer.

The role will include a mixture of patient contact, management of databases, making appointments, and managing our health and well-being events. The patient contact will include answering phone enquiries, contacting patients directly, assisting with health & well-being events, and filling in forms for both feedback and assessment.

Main duties of the job

The Cancer Clinical Support Worker will form an integral part of the multidisciplinary team approach in caring for the physical, social, and psychological needs of patients diagnosed with cancer and their carers throughout the care treatment pathway and after care support.

You will work in close unison with the Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNSs) to ensure the coordination and management of patients at all points of their treatment, including stratified follow-up, and will be able to signpost patients to support their self-management. You will be responsible for the management of IT systems that support the cancer pathway and will be a key contact for patients.

The post holder will work independently within the remit of the role but under the guidance and supervision of the Clinical Nurse Specialists.

The successful candidate will have worked within the NHS and have excellent communication skills, experience in data collection, analysis, and office software, and will be able to prioritise their workload without direct supervision. Previous experience of supporting cancer patients would be advantageous.

Education/Qualifications

Essential

  • GCSE/’O’ level English and Mathematics
  • NVQ Level 5 in Health or Social care, or equivalent experience/education/Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care
  • Evidence of further study, courses related to healthcare or cancer care

Desirable

  • Medical Terminology Course.

Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Relevant Health or social care experience at Band 3 or equivalent, or transferable knowledge & experience of working with the public
  • Understanding of key referral pathways to Allied Health Professionals to support plans of care
  • Experience in using a spreadsheet and devising databases
  • Experience in managing small projects
  • Previous Involvement with Data collection systems and data analysis
  • Experience in dealing with challenging situations

Desirable

  • Previous experience of supporting patients/clients
  • Previous experience in a cancer services setting or similar.
  • Clinical audit knowledge, Previous experience of participation in an audit
  • Experience in service improvement
  • Hospital PAS systems
