Are you ready to make a real difference in patient care? We’re looking for a proactive and passionate individual to join our evolving Point of Care Testing (POCT) team at Powys Teaching Health Board.

As a POCT Associate Practitioner, you’ll be at the forefront of delivering high-quality diagnostic services directly at the point of care. Your role will be varied and impactful, ranging from maintaining and troubleshooting advanced POCT equipment to managing reagents, ensuring quality control, and supporting clinical teams through training and audits.

Main duties of the job

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Maintaining and calibrating specialised POCT equipment
  • Troubleshooting technical issues and ensuring minimal downtime
  • Managing reagent supplies and documentation
  • Performing internal quality control and administering external quality assessments
  • Delivering and organising training for clinical staff
  • Supporting audits and continuous service improvement
  • Working flexibly across PTHB sites when required to ensure seamless service delivery

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Level 3 Diploma qualification in Pathology or equivalent level of knowledge and/or experience in a STEM subject
  • Knowledge of information management
  • Understand the meaning and application of confidentiality

Desirable

  • ECDL or equivalent
  • Laboratory/POCT qualification e.g. IBMS Certificate (Desirable)
  • Willingness to attain further qualifications in the POCT discipline

Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience of working within a pathology environment
  • Experience using IT systems (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Knowledge of Data Protection, FOI and Caldicott
  • Understanding of Health & Safety in the workplace

Desirable

  • Experience with ISO standards or equivalent
  • Experience of working within POCT discipline
  • Experience of Quality Assurance methods
  • Experience of using POCT equipment
  • Experience of working with staff from multidisciplinary backgrounds
  • Experience working in the NHS
  • Experience of delivering training to groups or individuals

Essential

  • Ability to travel effectively between all locations within PTHB premises including GP practices to enable continuity of service
  • Ability and willingness to make frequent independent (lone) travel to all relevant organisational sites for implementation, training, troubleshooting, assaying
  • Ability to work hours flexibly
  • Ability to move throughout hospital sites to troubleshoot, train, maintain and quality assure multiple POCT devices
