Key Responsibilities and Duties of the IT Network Engineer

Duties

• Use Cisco, Juniper, and other networking equipment to design, set up, and administer LAN, WAN, and data centre network architectures.
• Set up and keep up network devices like Cisco ASA firewalls, Meraki switches and access points, routers that work with OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, MPLS, IPsec VPNs, and SD-WAN solutions.
• Set up and keep an eye on network security tools like IDS/IPS systems, PKI infrastructure, LDAP/Active Directory integration, SSO solutions, and encryption protocols like SSL/TLS.
• Use VMware vSphere and cloud platforms like AWS and Azure to manage virtualisation environments that offer high availability and disaster recovery plans.
• Use technologies like SolarWinds, Splunk, PRTG Network Monitor, and SolarWinds to do vulnerability assessments and find and fix possible threats.
• Use scripting languages like Python, Bash (Unix shell), PowerShell, and technologies like Ansible to automate the maintenance of network configurations.
• Help with network installation projects such fibre optics (Ethernet), phone systems, VoIP services, DNS/DHCP setups, NFS shares, SAN storage solutions, and Linux (Ubuntu, Debian, CentOS) and UNIX (Solaris/BSD) system administration duties.
• Work together in Agile teams to help DevOps projects that include cloud security practices and CI/CD pipelines for continuous integration and deployment.
• Use IPsec or SSL protocols to provide network support for remote access using VPNs. Make sure that people from all over the world can connect securely.
• Use SolarWinds or PRTG to check on your network regularly. Plan for capacity and tune performance to get the most out of your network.
• Keep records of network architectural diagrams and standard operating procedures that follow ITIL best practices.

Skills and Qualifications Required (UK Skilled Worker Visa IT Jobs)

What you need

• Proven experience in computer networking, including LAN/WAN design and management.
• Strong understanding of routing protocols like OSPF and BGP, network protocols like TCP/IP and UDP, DNS, DHCP, SSH, SFTP, FTP, SNMP, LDAP, SSO, and VPN technologies like IPsec.
