Job summary

Are you a speech and language therapist looking for a Band 6 role working with children in our supportive and progressive NHS team? We are expanding our team of Band 6 therapists to enable us to enhance our delivery of the SEND White Paper’s new Experts at Hand model, in early years settings and in schools. We have a number of new roles, based in the West and East of the county.

We’re a Balanced System service – we work in an evidence-based way at a universal, targeted and specialist level; delivering an Experts at Hand model already.

We are a supportive team, working together in schools and settings

We have excellent admin support with two main bases

All our team are well equipped to do their  job – we invest in resources/equipment, so we all have what we need on a day-to-day basis

This is a full-time post

We have positions available within our Catshill and Franche Clinics.

Main duties of the job

What are the potential opportunities within this role?

• Working in our early years and school age team supporting the delivery of our Experts at Hand link therapist service, including the development of a link therapist service for all early years settings
• Developing clinical knowledge and skills in a range of areas, including working at a universal, targeted and specialist level in schools and settings
• Working alongside and learning from highly experienced therapists – we are a mature Balanced System service, with 15 years of place-based working and ease of access for children and their families
• Delivering training – both formal, such as Language for Learning and ELSEC training, and informal on-the-job training in schools and settings
• Supporting less experienced therapists and developing skills in mentorship

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

• RCSLT Certificate to Practice
• Registered Member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
• HCPC Registered
• Evidence of CPD relevant to current role
• Attainment of a degree or equivalent, giving eligibility to practice as a Speech and Language Therapist

Experience

Essential

• Experienced generalist across a range of community and school settings
• Experience of working collaboratively with health and education colleagues
• Experience delivering training to education and health colleagues

Knowledge

Essential

• Assessment of speech, language and communication difficulties, differential diagnosis of SLCN
• Knowledge of therapy interventions

Desirable

• Knowledge of The Balanced System approach and framework and what implementation of this looks like in speech and language therapy services, schools and settings

Skills

Essential

• Ability to communicate effectively and clearly in English both verbally and in writing

Additional Criteria

Essential

• Able to travel efficiently to meet the needs of the job – travelling from setting to setting
