Job Summary

This is a specialised post supporting all existing Imaging IT Systems such as Carestream Philips Vue Picture Archive and Communication System (PACS), Hyland’s Vendor Neutral Archive (VNA), embedded Radiology Information System (RIS) within our Electronic Health Record System (EHRS), Epic Radiant, and teleradiology systems. The Trust deployed the new Electronic Health Record Service (EHRS) Epic in March 2019, which has significant integration with the Imaging IT systems.

Main duties of the job

The post will bring a high level of IT and service-related knowledge to bear on the support and development of the systems. They will have exposure to strategic planning and implementation for developments of the systems in conjunction with local IT teams and third-party suppliers. The post holder will have a radiography/Imaging background.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • 1st Level Degree, or equivalent.
  • Understanding of data protection act and issues relating to clinical data.

Desirable

  • Recognised IT qualification (e.g., IT-based MSc) or equivalent experience.
  • Teaching qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to identify the need for policy to support the operation of complex IT systems

Experience

Essential

  • Evidence of experience working in a clinical radiology environment
  • Experience of using RIS and PACS in a clinical setting

Desirable

  • Experience in the use of a large multi-user relational database management system (RDBMS)
  • Experience of using a clinical database
  • Experience working with Clinical Information Systems.

Skills & Abilities

Essential

  • Excellent communication skills, oral and written
  • Ability to organise and prioritise own and others’ workload
  • Motivated and able to enthuse others
  • Ability to work effectively with clinical, medical, and support staff.
  • Ability to explain complex information to a range of users.

IT System Management

Essential

  • Good understanding of IT basics, including computer components and peripherals.
  • Understanding of PACS, VNA, and RIS operation and structure
  • Ability to analyse technical problems and make suggestions towards the resolution of faults
  • Ability to operate complex, high-value systems
  • Ability to support the planning and management of complex IT implementations, such as system upgrades, having an impact across multiple departments
  • Working knowledge of the principal Windows family operating systems and Microsoft Office products
  • Ability to work under pressure from users to identify and resolve problems.

Desirable

  • Understanding of computer networks, including TCP/IP addressing and routing
  • Knowledge of EPR/CRS – local, regional and national plans
  • Understanding of databases, their use and maintenance.
  • Understanding of HL7 and DICOM standards

Information Management

Essential

  • Ability to write accurate and detailed reports for both clinical and managerial use.
  • Understanding of data collection techniques

Desirable

  • Ability to use database tools (eg Access/SQL) to sort and analyse clinical and management information.
  • Knowledge of NICIP exam codes

Clinical Governance

Essential

  • Understanding of the risks involved with electronic patient records and techniques for mitigating these.
