Job Summary
The Nursery Nurse will be part of skill skills-mixed team of qualified SEND School Nurses, SEND Health Visitors, Staff Nurses, Nursery Nurse, and administrative staff.
The post holder, as an effective member of the SEND 0-19 service, will support the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme (HCP) 5-19 to a defined population. Using evidence-based and needs-led service, the post holder will offer packages of care in a variety of community settings, which include child health clinics, home, early years’ settings, schools, and children’s centres.
Main duties of the job
The HCP 0-19 SEND team service is part of the wider Children’s Health services, which provide community-based services for children and young people (aged 0-19 years). The SEND School Nursing service element works with stakeholders across a number of settings and organisations to lead delivery of the Healthy Child Programme (5-19) to improve child health outcomes and ensure that families at risk are identified at the earliest opportunity. The team will work with a wider multi-disciplinary team and external services to provide a team around the child & family approach to service provision, ensuring an all-year-round service is offered.
The overarching aim of public health services for children (0-19) is to protect and promote the health and well-being of children and families. The SEND is a workforce of specialist community public health nurses who provide expert advice, support, and interventions to families with children and Young People between 0-19 years, and help empower young people to make decisions that affect their future health and wellbeing.

Qualifications
Essential
- NCFE CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Child Care and Education/ BTEC National Diploma in Children’s Care, Learning and Development/NVQ Level 3 in Children’s Care, Learning and Development
- Foundation Degree or evidence-based of post-qualification education and/or development
Knowledge & Experience
Essential
- Experience of working with a Healthy Child Programme (e.g. School Nursing/health visiting) or community settings
- Evidence of working with CYP who have SEND and additional needs
- Delivery of health promotion sessions
Key competencies
Essential
- Demonstrable experience working with children and young people
- Can demonstrate high level of interpersonal skills.
- Computer literate – ability to use software programmes designed to maximise the contribution to the post e.g. Microsoft, Word, Excel.
