Table of Contents
Serving people with learning disabilities in the London Borough of Hackney, the Hackney Integrated Learning Disability Team is an integrated health and social care multidisciplinary service. The service is committed to facilitation and liaison with local health and social care provider services so that people with learning disabilities can access mainstream services where possible and that their experience and outcomes are good. Additionally, the service provides specialist input to clients where this is required.
Main duties of the job
Providing a highly specialist clinical psychology service to people with learning disabilities and their families/carers, including assessment, development and implementation of specialist psychological interventions, the post holder will develop a key role in the Hackney Integrated Learning Disability Service. The postholder will contribute to the continuing development of psychology and of the service. Acting autonomously, the postholder will manage a defined caseload of complex cases independently, evidencing problem-solving and clinical reasoning skills in line with evidence-based and client-centred principles. S/he will be involved in clinical research and development where appropriate.

Education/Qualification/ Training
Essential
- Postgraduate Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS or due to qualify
- HCPC registration
- Eligibility for graduate membership of BPS
Desirable
- Clinical supervision training for Doctoral trainees and qualified Clinical Psychologists after 2 years qualified
- Relevant specialist training or qualifications e.g. CBT, systemic therapies, neuropsychology, etc.
Experience
Essential
- Relevant experience working in learning disability settings
- Work in a multi-cultural setting, including working with interpreters
- Experience of working with people with behaviours considered to be complex or challenging
Desirable
- Experience of delivering clinical supervision
Knowledge and Skills
Essential
- Well-developed knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies for people with learning disabilities who have complex needs
- Knowledge of psychological research, national policy and legislation relevant to learning disability
- Doctoral-level knowledge of research design and methodology, including complex multivariate data analysis
- Able to provide a culturally competent service
Desirable
- Fluent in a community language (eg Turkish, Bengali/Sylheti, Vietnamese etc)
