Qualifications

Essential

• First degree in an appropriate biological science, computer science, or bioinformatics

Desirable

• MSc-level degree in bioinformatics

Experience

Essential

• Experience in developing and using bioinformatics tools and resources
• Experience in software development in an object-oriented language (eg, Python)
• Experience in analysing large high-throughput datasets

Desirable

• Bioinformatics analysis of next-generation sequencing data

Knowledge

Essential

• Good knowledge of UNIX
• Knowledge of at least one programming/ scripting language
• To have a good knowledge of general software development procedures
• Knowledge of data protection requirements

Desirable

• Knowledge and understanding of next-generation sequencing approaches, and statistical methods used in analysing the large complex data sets generated.
• Knowledge of bioinformatics tools available for the analysis and interpretation of genetic and genomic data
