This is a new and exciting secondment role for someone with experience working with children and young people with neurodiverse conditions, in health, education, or similar settings. This role is integral to the establishment and delivery of a pilot service to test a new neurodiversity (ND) assessment and support model for children and young people (CYP) across several southeast London (SEL) boroughs. This is initially a 15-month pilot, with the potential to extend to 18 months.

The aim of the pilot is to test a new multi-borough ND support and assessment model. The Hub will:

  • Pilot the use of an ND insight profiling tool to inform assessment and identify support needs
  • offer relevant support and workshops to CYP and their families whilst waiting.

The postholder will have experience working with CYP with a diagnosed ND condition or with CYP experiencing ND typical behaviours or needs, requiring support. They will facilitate the use of a ‘strengths and needs’ assessment for CYP, and identify appropriate support to help schools and families meet the needs of the CYP. The role will support oversight of the profiling pathway process and will provide high levels of liaison with CYP and their families/carers and schools to support completion of the questionnaires.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will be expected to work well within a multidisciplinary team and be flexible and embrace opportunities and change. The role involves direct work with CYP, families, schools and other health and education colleagues. The post holder will assist the ND Wellbeing Practitioner, clinical programme lead and other members of the ND Hub with the facilitation of support workshops and will also contribute to the continuous improvement of service quality and patient care. The postholder will be expected to develop strong relationships and build trust with colleagues within the ND Hub.
