Salary dependent on experience and qualifications. Higher rates are reserved for candidates with substantial experience and/or relevant training, such as a recognised Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent). Pay is determined in line with school expectations and Agency Worker Regulations (AWR), where applicable.

About the Role:

We are recruiting on behalf of a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Islington for a full-time SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils in Year 2.

This community-focused school has a strong reputation for inclusive practice and supporting pupils with a wide range of special educational needs within a mainstream setting. The school promotes a nurturing ethos, clear behaviour expectations and positive relationships, ensuring every child feels safe, valued and supported to reach their full potential.

The successful candidate will provide targeted 1:1 and small group support for pupils with additional needs, including autism spectrum conditions, speech and language needs, and social/emotional needs. A key aspect of the role will be delivering and reinforcing Read Write Inc (RWI) phonics interventions, helping pupils develop early reading, writing, and communication skills.

This is a long-term opportunity for a patient, proactive, and committed Teaching Assistant who is passionate about inclusion and making a meaningful difference.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group SEN support within the Year 2 classroom and in breakout spaces where appropriate
  • Deliver and reinforce Read Write Inc phonics sessions, adapting resources to meet individual targets
  • Support pupils’ access to the wider curriculum through scaffolding, visual aids, and practical strategies
  • Implement individual education plans (IEPs) and behaviour support strategies
  • Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation using a calm and nurturing approach
  • Work collaboratively with the class teacher, SENDC, and external professionals

Support pupils during transitions and unstructured times where required

Requirements:

To be eligible for this role and the stated rate of pay, applicants must have:

  • Experience supporting primary-aged children, ideally within Key Stage 1
  • Experience working with pupils with SEN, including autism and/or speech and language needs
  • A good understanding of inclusive classroom practice
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to model clear, accurate spoken English
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team and use initiative when appropriate

A recognised Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification and/or experience delivering Read Write Inc would be advantageous, but is not essential.

Our client can offer you:

  • A warm and inclusive school community
  • A strong and supportive SEND team
  • Clear behaviour systems and structured routines
  • Ongoing professional development opportunities
  • A collaborative and welcoming staff culture
