About the Role:
We are recruiting on behalf of a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Islington for a full-time SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils in Year 2.
This community-focused school has a strong reputation for inclusive practice and supporting pupils with a wide range of special educational needs within a mainstream setting. The school promotes a nurturing ethos, clear behaviour expectations and positive relationships, ensuring every child feels safe, valued and supported to reach their full potential.
The successful candidate will provide targeted 1:1 and small group support for pupils with additional needs, including autism spectrum conditions, speech and language needs, and social/emotional needs. A key aspect of the role will be delivering and reinforcing Read Write Inc (RWI) phonics interventions, helping pupils develop early reading, writing, and communication skills.
This is a long-term opportunity for a patient, proactive, and committed Teaching Assistant who is passionate about inclusion and making a meaningful difference.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 and small group SEN support within the Year 2 classroom and in breakout spaces where appropriate
- Deliver and reinforce Read Write Inc phonics sessions, adapting resources to meet individual targets
- Support pupils’ access to the wider curriculum through scaffolding, visual aids, and practical strategies
- Implement individual education plans (IEPs) and behaviour support strategies
- Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation using a calm and nurturing approach
- Work collaboratively with the class teacher, SENDC, and external professionals
Support pupils during transitions and unstructured times where required
Requirements:
To be eligible for this role and the stated rate of pay, applicants must have:
- Experience supporting primary-aged children, ideally within Key Stage 1
- Experience working with pupils with SEN, including autism and/or speech and language needs
- A good understanding of inclusive classroom practice
- Strong communication skills and the ability to model clear, accurate spoken English
- The ability to work effectively as part of a team and use initiative when appropriate
A recognised Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification and/or experience delivering Read Write Inc would be advantageous, but is not essential.
Our client can offer you:
- A warm and inclusive school community
- A strong and supportive SEND team
- Clear behaviour systems and structured routines
- Ongoing professional development opportunities
- A collaborative and welcoming staff culture
