Job Summary
To work as an Assistant Psychologist under the supervision of a Clinical Psychologist in the delivery of psychology services to the Bolton Early Intervention for Psychosis Team (EIT) . Bolton EIT is a friendly and supportive service with a wide range of MDT professionals. The role of the Assistant Psychologist is to support and enhance the psychological care of clients within the EIT service.
This will involve undertaking clinical assessments, completing routine outcome measures, assisting in the delivery of psychological interventions, and carrying out clinical audit and project work as required.
To work independently according to a plan agreed with a qualified Clinical Psychologist and within the overall framework of the team’s policies and procedures. To assist in clinically related administration, conduct of audits, collection of statistics, and development of audit and/or research projects/ service evaluation, teaching, and project work.
The post holder will be based within the multi-professional Bolton Early Intervention Team. There will be a need to travel around Bolton and the Greater Manchester region at times.
Main duties of the job
Supporting team assessments for people referred to the EIT.
Delivering psychosocial interventions and CBT-informed interventions to people under EIT
To support routine outcome measures to ensure good quality care.

Knowledge
Essential
- Essential Criteria: Upper second class honours degree or higher in psychology. Eligible for graduate membership of the British Psychological Society. Experience working with people with mental health or social care needs. Understanding of multidisciplinary and complex care settings. Insight into mental health difficulties. Knowledge of psychological assessments and interventions. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and manage competing tasks. Willingness to travel across Bolton and Greater Manchester.
Desirable
- Postgraduate training in psychology, mental health, or research. Training in psychosocial or family interventions (e.g., PSI, BFT).
Experience
Essential
- Experience working with people with mental health or social care needs. Understanding of multidisciplinary and complex care settings. Insight into mental health difficulties. Knowledge of psychological assessments and interventions. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and manage competing tasks. Willingness to travel across Bolton and Greater Manchester.
Desirable
- Experience with complex mental health problems (e.g., psychosis). Experience in Assistant Psychologist roles. Use of standardised tools and clinical record systems. Knowledge of SPSS and Excel. Ability to travel by car. Interest in working with psychosis.
